Fresh off of Gruhn Guitars work bench is this beautiful 1928 Gibson F2 mandolin. Though post Loar era, this sweet sounding oval hole gem has it all. The following is the appraisal from Gruhn’s:

Appraisal for Paul Clark

I have personally examined the instrument described below.

We certify the instrument described below is, in our opinion, a Gibson F-2 model mandolin, made in the year 1928

Description: Factory order number (FON): illegible - ink-stamped on interior sidewall, in the area near the neck block. Serial number: 83286 â€" handwritten on interior white-oval paper label, visible though the soundhole. Gruhn Guitars has performed the following work: replace bridge top (e.g., original part retained inside the case), glued peghead veneer, fret dress, re-glue fingerboard edge binding in the area of the extension, repair back crack, fabricate and install new string nut, strings and set-up. In other respects, this instrument conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made with Florentine-style two-point body, carved spruce top, maple back and sides (e.g., birch is also seen), elevated tortoiseshell grain celluloid pickguard, multi-ply wood marquetry and ivoroid soundhole rosette, removable height-adjustable ebony bridge, typical metal extension-style tailpiece with machine-embossed “The Gibson” logo on removable metal cover, one-piece mahogany neck with adjustable truss-rod (e.g., use of adjustable truss-rod begins late in the year 1921), Florentine-style scroll peghead, mother-of-pearl “The Gibson” script logo peghead inlay, four-on-a-strip over-wound open-back tuners with grained ivoroid buttons, ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays, single-ply grained ivoroid edge binding on fingerboard, soundhole and body top, nickel-plated metal hardware, and other typical F-2 model appointments. The instrument is currently housed in the original hard-shell case with black leatherette exterior covering and green plush interior lining. Current market value: $5,000 (five thousand dollars)

Photos available upon request. $5,000 plus $100 shipping lower 48 states.
