Dave Cohen Original A-Model Mandolin

Photo for Ad 196397

This was the first mandolin I built of my own design, dated July 28, 1999. From memory, it sounded reasonably good. But, the neck angle was high, as was the overstand of the neck at the heel, making for a very tall bridge. The mandolin as it was felt awkward to play. I didn't attempt to sell it, nor did I play it more than a few times. Looking at it recently, I decided to remove the neck and replace it with a neck made to my current standard. The original neck also had a conventional adjustable truss rod and a rather long peghead, and was pretty heavy as a consequence. The new neck has a buried CF composite inverted T beam stiffener. The balance and playability of the instrument was greatly improved by the new neck. The sound is better than the original, from what I can remember. The mandolin has a good chop, crisp attack, and good tonal balance.
