I have been a careful steward of this gem for nearly 20 years, rarely taking it out of a humidified room and never in extreme temperatures. It must be near mint for being 88 years old and is both a player and a collectible. Very slight checking in the finish when held up to the light. Factory Order Number “1218” is inked inside the body. Original hard case.
The Gibson A-00 mandolin was introduced in 1933, and had a run of ten years. In 1934, the model transitioned from round sound hole to 'f'-holes and an elevated pick guard. The top is carved sunburst spruce. A nickel-plated clam shell covers the tail piece. The (flat) back and sides are likely maple and stained a very dark mahogany. The top is bound in white celluloid, and sports an elevated, faux- tortoise pickguard. The neck is mahogany, finished in the same dark color as the back and sides. The finger board is Brazilian rosewood and features a number of pearl position markers. The head stock is painted black with the Gibson logo in white paint. The body measures 10 1/8" across at the lower bout. Scale length is 13 7/8". The neck measures 1 3/16" across at the nut and string spacing is 1 5/8" across at the bridge/saddle.
