Anyone know if there's ever been a mandolin CD dedicated to the Allman Brothers' music? There's so many good tunes in their repertoire that could be adapted to mandolin, and I wonder if it's been done.

If not, can you suggest groups who've done cool arrangements featuring the mando? I remember a great version of Whipping Post from somewhere....

I ask because I own a recording studio, and was thinking of producing a CD of the above, if it hasn't already been done.

Thanks,

Great idea. I don't think I've seen such an album, but I'd love to. Be sure to include "Midnight Rider"!

I think "Blue Sky" would lend itself to some interesting mando possibilities! Long time ABB lover, I'd love to hear this happen.

Not a "mandolin" cd as such, but Pickin' On The Allman Bros has some mighty fine mandolin by Butch Baldassari.

Jessica would be a dandy number. And Dickie Betts certainly knows mandolin as he and Larry Rice were buds.

Check out In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from the link wildpikr provides below. Nice swing tune, I know I've heard that on WNCW before. Also, I've heard Sam Bush quote "Les Brers in A minor" in an extended solo live. That's another good 'un!

There is also a really nice version of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" on the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble's Bach, Beatles, and Bluegrass album --- which is a great album from start to finish.

I love playing Whippin' Post on Mandolin. Often jam it with fiddle & guitar playing friends

I know this is somewhat off-topic but you might find this interesting:

Chris Thile and Tim O'Brian do a pretty jazzed up version of Jerusalem Ridge here. While I'm impressed with the their abilities, I'm not that fond of all the wild improv type stuff. I love the last run-through though. Begining around 5:45 or so, they do an excellent melody/harmony thing that puts me in mind of the Allman Brothers.
