  1. 10 Things You Might Want To Know About The Classifieds

Whether you're using the Classifieds to buy and sell, trade, or you'd just like to do a little research on instrument traffic that has some actual meat, here are some random tips we think you might enjoy. Some you may know, some you may not.

    1. For sellers, this is new. As of a few days ago if you have uploaded and image with your ad and you added a web link with the ad URL (that's a web link acronym) then the image becomes clickable to whatever web address you've entered, say your ...

Random thoughts on a Saturday. Now, I really don't mean to cause any trouble here, but...

    --------

Curious why The Loar company didn't subscribe to a numbering system that identically matched the original Loars from the 20s. Seems that would have been in the spirit of some of their efforts to get under the skin of Gibson's owner. We think they missed a golden opportunity. #1 The Loar could have been #73987 (Monroe's box).

  5. A searchable TablEdit database

Like to contribute to new growing resource on the Mandolin Cafe? We're putting the finishing touches on our own searchable database of TablEdit files and welcome contributors.

TablEdit for those of you who haven't used it is a favorite piece of software in the mandolin world for creating and sharing music in standard notation and tablature. It can import music from formats such as midi and ABC (and others) and exports to many other formats. Audio playback of the tune is one of the ...

  7. An iPhone, iPad, iTouch mini-tutorial

Here's some fun for fellow iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch owners. I recently implemented a series of Apple icons on the Cafe so that if and when you set a short-cut to a web site on your desktop (I'll show you how in a bit) you get an image of our choosing instead of the default screen shot of the web page (boring, too small! hiss...). I encouraged Dan and Ted to do this on the Mandolin Archive and JazzMando.com and here are the results below--you should see the icons for the three web sites contained ...
  8. The Mandolin Cafe's 2010 In Review

As we did in 2009, it's a good time to pause and recap some of the memorable highlights in the mandolin world as we saw them (see our 2009 comments here). If you don't see what you thought was important here, it's certainly on this page.

    O Brother.

No, no, it's not me moaning about something I read on the forum.

inline imageSurely we all know it's the tenth anniversary of the release of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. Cause for celebration! All hail! Time to remember this moment in music history, the bluegrass and traditional organizations and acoustic web sites rise up to...

  10. The Mandolin Cafe iPhone App

iPhone owner? There's a new way to connect to the Mandolin Cafe thanks to mandolin player and ace programmer Steve Smith who makes his home in Florida. Meet v1 of the Mandolin Cafe iPhone App, available for free from the Apple App Store, developed by Steve as his first steps into programming for the iPhone. We think he did a terrific job.
