  1. Mandolin Mondays #21 - Paddy Fahy Reels

Here are a few of my favorite easy-going Irish reels--all penned by the great fiddler Paddy Fahy. In order of appearance I believe these are reels No. 14, No. 20, and No. 1 from the Fahy cannon. I learned the first two from the playing of one of my favorite fiddlers, Martin Hayes, and the last from the playing of the great Kevin Burke.

  2. Mandolin Mondays #20 - Theme and Variations on "Bury Me Beneath"

Last week was Maybelle Carter's birthday, and this time 13 years ago we lost her daughter, June Carter. In memory of these two amazing artists, I put together a few different versions of the Carter Family's great tune "Bury Me Beneath the Willow" in a quasi-classical Theme and Variations format.

  3. Mandolin Mondays # 19 - "Hushabye Mountain"

Visiting memories from my childhood with this haunting lullaby from the great Sherman Brothers and the slightly disturbed genius of Roald Dahl in the classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

  4. Mandolin Mondays #18 - Homer the Roamer

It's been nearly 15 years since the amazing John Hartford left us. So wish that I could have met him. This is one of my most favorite tunes ever, one that John wrote called "Homer the Roamer."

  7. Mandolin Mondays #15 - The Entertainer

Time for a little ragtime mandolin. Here's my arrangement of perhaps one of the most famous piano pieces ever written. I took a few cues from the great Chet Atkins for this tune. Also, a huge shout out to Swannanoa Gathering director Jim MaGill, who has his own great arrangements of Scott Joplin's tunes and helped inspire my rendition.

  9. Mandolin Mondays #13 - Bach Gm Fuga and Presto

Just for Bach's birthday (March 21st) here's a closet recording from the vault. Back in 2014 I tried learning these two movements from Bach's Violin Sonata No. 1 in Gm BWV 1001. This performance is far from perfect, but it was probably the best I was ever able to play it.

  10. Mandolin Mondays #12 - Tell Me Something Good

Things are getting a little funky here at Mandolin Mondays. Here's my stab at trying to sound like the great Chaka Khan and the whole Rufus band on the mandolin all at once.
