    Milwaukee, Wi. — The Hal Leonard Corporation has announced the publication of 400 Smokin' Bluegrass Mandolin Licks by Eddie Collins.

    This book/CD utilizes 24 common bluegrass chord progressions to teach the reader over 400 licks, allowing you to create solos for hundreds of bluegrass tunes.

    Licks are developed from major, pentatonic and blues scales. Mandolin-specific techniques, such as tremolo, double stops, drone strings, and cross picking are included in many of the phrases. Licks and solos are presented in different keys, including the keys of F, Bb and B.

      Speaking as a newbie - I haven't gotten deep into this resource yet, but from page one and on, everything I've learned from this book/CD has been terrific. Highly recommended for beginners and intermediates who haven't already learned a ton of licks.
