Grand Rapids, Mich. — Limited Registration has begun for the Great Lakes Music Camp (GLMC), a four-day acoustic music symposium held at Camp Blodgett (West Olive, MI) October 3-6, 2019.
The packages including on-site hotel accommodations will be available to the public after a short window of time designated for returning campers. These packages will go on sale to the public in April.
At this time, the bunk house lodging, commuter camping packages, and "day camper" packages will be available at the camp web site.
The camp, which features some of the finest acoustic music instructors in the country, will include workshops, lessons, hosted jams, and concerts through the extended weekend in the bluegrass, old-time, swing, folk, and Americana styles.
The GLMC will offer guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and songwriting instruction from award winning musicians, Don Julin (author of Mandolin for Dummies), Darol Anger, Grant Gordy, John Mailander, Betse Ellis, Joe K. Walsh, Jason Wheeler, Clark Wyatt, Keith Billik, Hayes Griffin, Evie Ladin, and Bruce Ling. Additional instructors and performers will be announced later this summer.
Beginner, intermediate, and advanced tracks will be available. In addition, GLMC will be offering an "ensemble track" for campers that concludes with group performances at the end of the camp. These will be recorded and later offered to the campers as a take-away.
GLMC Executive Director, Jason Wheeler stated, "We are so excited for the launch of this year’s Great Lakes Music Camp. At this time, we’re just opening a few select points of entry for the public and we’ll be releasing the private, on-site hotel accommodation packages next month after a short early-bird sign up for our returning campers. Those packages sell out almost immediately and we've already had reservations for many of them so we're feeling very good about this year's camp. With the list of instructors, the beautiful location, and the community partners we've established, I believe this year's camp is going to be the best yet!"
Additional camp features include a youth scholarship program, movie nights, VIP reception, private concerts for campers, organic and locally-grown gourmet food, musicians hostel lodging option, hiking, and beach activities (weather permitting).
The GLMC has partnered with local nonprofit The Grand River Watershed Arts/Music Council (GRWAMC) who will serve as the fiduciary for the event for the second year.
A large benefit concert on Saturday, October 13 will raise money for both Camp Blodgett and GRWAMC. Concert details will be revealed in July. GLMC is actively seeking sponsors for the benefit concert.
