Congratulations Music Industry, You're Winning

This Sunday we're publishing an important interview with Compass Records founder Alison Brown and bluegrass music legend Bobby Osborne. The subject is a sore one with many musicians, but its certainly not anything we don't already know.

The latest topic? More of the same, where the music industry continues to squeeze the profits out of working musicians, a process that began when the first music was sold how ever many hundreds of years ago. Online streaming has literally ripped the profits out from under musicians for a number of years now, and it's only getting worse.

For Compass Records, Alison Brown and co-founder husband Garry West have seen this first-hand since founding the label when LPs and CDs were the primary method of distributing music.

When Alison approached Bobby Osborne about producing a new recording for him, at age 85, he thought he'd recorded his last. Simply not economically feasible unless you're touring day in and day out. So Alison turned to crowd funding the recording being made with the likes of Sierra Hull, Stuart Duncan, Trey Hensley, Todd Phillips and Alison on banjo along with a cast of supporting musicians.

Always a groundbreaking musician, Bobby still has a lot to say musically, and we're excited to present this rare look into the process. We're also excited to support the project and plan to get in line with a pre-purchase. Either way, we think you're going to enjoy the interview. We had more to say about it than could logically fit on the Cafe page, so now you know.

Should publish Sunday evening about 5:00 p.m. Central.

I'm very much looking forward to this interview with Bobby. That's an interesting teaser to introduce it. Not only the fans of Bobby and these other great artists, but from the sound of it, all musicians should pay close attention to this.
