Mandolin Mondays #88 w/ Special Guest Wayne Benson

Rate this Entry
The phenomenal Wayne Benson joins Mandolin Mondays this week for a spin on the old fiddle classic, "Grey Eagle." That's some hot picking being done on that fine McCalahan mandolin!

Based in the Carolinas, Wayne has made a name for himself in the bluegrass world with his potent playing style, compelling recorded work, and prolific touring schedule. He is perhaps most known for his work with the award-winning bluegrass band Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out, but I first heard Wayne's playing on the classic Ultimate Pickin' instrumental record. Through this album, and his monumental mandolin duo record with Alan Bibey, The Mandolin Chronicles, I came to deeply appreciate Wayne's tasteful and distinguished sound.

Wayne also teaches private lessons and at music camps across the country. Additionally, he has a great transcription book available through AcuTab that features all of Wayne's mandolin breaks from the Bluegrass '95, '96 and '97 records. Check it out HERE

As always, more to come next week! Until then, Happy Picking!
