Mandolin Mondays #157 w/ Special Guest Olga Egorova

Rate this Entry
Moscow mandolin sensation Olga Egorova plays this Dutch made octave mandolin like no other! This week on Mandolin Mondays she brings us a set of Russian and Ukrainian tunes that will put you at the edge of your seat.

Olga is a professional Russian mandolinist who can be seen collaborating with many artists around the country. She performs regularly with guitarist Roman Palmov in the exciting acoustic and electric group, Duo Ro. Check out their most recent release here: https://www.duo-ro.com/?fbclid=IwAR1...vd6TPw12JnboEw

Here are a few words from Olga about this video, "There are three melodies in this medley: Russian traditional “I’m Sitting on a Pebble”, Ukrainian “Carol of the Bells” and once again Russian “In the Dark Forest” with some blues notes and classical cadenza. I'm sure you all know Carol of the Bells. Russian and Ukrainian folk cultures are similar, but have some differences in the harmonic system. In Russian music you can hear more pentatonic scale. And of course, you can add Blues steps to any melody.

I made this especially for "Mandolin Mondays" this December. Don’t worry no mandolins suffered while I was shooting this video. We have very dry air in Moscow flats, so the humidifier is on all the winter time

A few words about my mandolin: this octave mandolin (Mr. Green) was built for me by a Dutch luthier Thijs van der Harst. You can see another his instruments on his website: http://www.thijsvanderharst.nl/ Mr. Green's double strings are tuned in octaves, except for the first E-E--they are tuned in unison and sound like the first guitar string."

Just outstanding. I've seen a number of her videos before and I've never been more amazed by her playing. How she's not a household name in the music/mandolin community is beyond me.
