Mandolin Mondays #280 w/ Special Guest C.E. Jones

Rate this Entry
This week on Mandolin Mondays, classical mandolinist and composer C.E. Jones joins us for a beautiful performance of the "Allemande" from Cello Suite No. 1 by J.S. Bach played on this Gibson F9.

With a Bachelors degree in Cello Performance and a Masters and Doctorate in Music Composition from West Virginia University, Jones became deeply indoctrinated in the Appalachian traditional folk music. For the past half-decade he has played with the group 18 Strings, working their way through a catalog of six hundred-plus songs performing at bars, concert halls, street fairs, and festivals big and small.

C.E. also has a brand new album of mandolin interpretation of the Bach Goldberg Variations, that's just debuted on both the Classical and the Bluegrass Billboard Charts. Check out the record here:https://cejones.bandcamp.com/album/j...erg-variations

    Nicely done, Christopher.

His Bach collection is one of our favorites right now and he's the past week's guest on the Mandolins and Beer podcast.

Great playing and great sounding mandolin, of which I believe is a Gibson F9 instead of a Gibson F5G.

I'm loving Jones' Goldberg Variations CD. I've got a gut feeling that Bach anticipated every musical movement to come. When I listen to CE Jones' stunning version of Variation 23, it sounds like Bach was envisioning a delay pedal. For lack of a better word, it sounds psychedelic, otherworldly.

This demonstrates that the F-5 is not just a Bluegrass machine! Nicely played, sir.
