This week on Mandolin Mondays multi-instrumentalist Andrew Hendryx of the band Yarn is with us to take a spin on a couple classics "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall" and "I Know You Rider" on his beautiful Collings mandolin.



Andrew's musical career started at Elon College, NC where he performed with regional folk and jam bands. Later moving to NYC, Andrew co-founded the band Yarn, with which he toured nationally for nine years. Andrew is currently living on a farm in Western PA and released his first solo album, Deep River, in June of 2019.

Known for his soaring solos, Andrew Hendryx has performed at major music festivals, theaters, and rock clubs throughout the US. His music has been featured by Rolling Stone, NPR, CMT, PBS, Mountain Stage, and Daytrooter.com. He teaches mandolin for Vintage Guitar.

Andrew has collaborated and played with renowned artists including John Oates (Hall & Oates), Mike Gordon (Phish), Edie Brickell, Rahiem (Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five), Tim Carbone (Railroad Earth), Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band), Andy Falco and Jeremy Garrett (The Infamous Stringdusters), Ollabelle, Cabinet, Tony Leoni (Chris Robinson Brotherhood), Caitlin Carry (Whiskeytown), Vince Herman & Drew Emmitt (Leftover Salmon) and bluegrass legends Jim Lauderdale, Sam Bush, and Tony Trischka.

    I am hoping that someone will describe how Andrew grips his pick and how he came to use that particular grip. It looks to me like he is holding it between his thumb and middle finger.

    I, too, was mesmerized by his right hand and the various and constant manipulations of the pick. Seems to be someone who has done what we all need to do, figured out what works best for himself.
