Rate this Entry
This week on Mandolin Mondays we're joined by bluegmulti-instrumentalist Anthony Howell. Check out this original tune of his called "Mark's Reel" played on his 2019 Weber Gallatin mandolin.

Anthony is a multi-instrumentalist originally from a small town in central Mississippi called Zama. He started taking mandolin lessons at the age of 11 from a man named Alan Sibley, and soon after went on to learn guitar and banjo.

In 2015 Anthony started playing with a local band called Tyler Carroll and Pineridge. Anthony was the banjo player for this band for three years until he got offered a job with a family bluegrass band called Williamson Branch. During this time Anthony went on to win 1st place at the 2015 Mississippi State Bluegrass Championships for Flatpicking Guitar and Banjo and also won 2nd place with the mandolin. Anthony was also voted 2017 and 2018 Magnolia State Bluegrass Association Banjo Player of the Year and nominated for the same award for 2019.

Anthony also has a new album out entitled “Memories” this album includes lots of original compositions and is available on iTunes, Spotify, and anywhere else you can find music online.

Here's a word from Anthony about this video, "This is a tune that I wrote in 2020 and recorded on a project called “Time To Pick” with Alan Sibley. The name of the song is Mark’s Reel. It was named after a man named Mark Gresham who was a luthier from Savanah, Georgia. Mark was in the process of building me a guitar in 2019 and he unfortunately passed away of a heart attack. So this is my tribute to him."

And as always, tune in next week for more Mandolin Mondays! Until then...

Happy Picking!

    Nice pickin’ Anthony!

Is “ bluegmulti-instrumentalist” an intentional portmanteau?
