Back on Mandolin Mondays this week, we're joined by Pacific Northwest mandolinist Jack Dwyer and his Pomeroy mandolin, playing an original composition called "Downtown Rondo" from his brand new album Rondos Vol. 1.



Northwest songslinger and strum-for-hire, Jack Dwyer, has pursued a wide-ranging career as a songwriter, singer, bandleader, multi-instrumentalist side & studio musician, teacher, recording engineer and producer. Jack began working as a professional backing musician in his early teens, and has performed at festivals and clubs all over the U.S. with the likes of Peter Rowan, Bill Keith, Darol Anger, Scott Law, Tony Furtado, Caleb Klauder & Reeb Wilms, Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, The Mammals, Don Stiernberg, and others.

His brand new album, Rondos Vol. I, is the first installment in an original collection of fiddle tunes written by Jack Dwyer and features demonstration recordings of fifteen tunes on mandolin and guitar, with complete notation and an introductory chapter on the origins and structure of the rondo. Here's a word from Jack about this video, "The rondo form originated in European Baroque and Classical music and entered folk traditions around the world. The rondo is primarily instrumental and is characterized by a main refrain that alternates between two or more novel themes. (If the rondo were a song, each verse would have a new melody and chords unique from the previous). The rondos in this volume generally follow an AA BB A CC A form. This particular rondo form is perhaps the most common outside of classical music and is known both as the "French waltz form" and the "choro-rondo" form."
