Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.
This week on Mandolin Mondays we're joined by Dutch mandolinist Janos Koolen playing a beautiful medley of original tunes on his Collings MTO mandolin.

Janos Koolen (1981) is a Dutch multi-instrumentalist with a particular love for the mandolin. Among other groups he currently plays with Bertolf & Bluefinger. Besides bluegrass Janos likes to explore all different kinds of genres and use the mandolin together with instruments like the oud, accordion and even drums.

In this video Janos plays a medley of four original tunes. The first one is written after a visit to the beautiful ‘Zweribach’ waterfall in Germany, the others are reels that together are called ‘The Billy Goat’.

The track ‘Zweribach’ is on the album ‘Lagom’ by Janos Koolen & Remco Sietsema (button accordion, vocals):

The track ‘The Billy Goat is on the album ‘Shisha Group’ by Janos Koolen, Haytham Safia (oud) and Arthur Bont (drums):

The mandolin is a Collings MTO played with a Bluechip TAD-3R 50 and D’Addario XS 11.5-40 strings. The recording is done with a Neumann U89 and no eq or compression has been used.

And as always, tune in next week for more Mandolin Mondays! Until then...

Happy Picking!
