Currently, this is my preferred setup for a really full, interesting sound - like a punchy 12S guitar: Starting with GHS PF285, I substitute a LB26 for the 44, a LO14 for the 32 and a LO9 1/2 for the 22. I've been buying the GHS PF285 and single strings from Elderly's.
hi i am relatively new to these chat lines i used to have a trinity college... but i found my hands were too small so i ended up buying a Garrison Mandola (Garrison was just bought out by Gibson ....i got their last mandola) i have tried to change the strings to octave tuning like the bouzouki.... and am getting some buzzes on the e string..... i was interested to see your tuning and will likely try it what gauge are you using on the e string? i am thinking i may have to use heavier gauge to deal with the buzz..... now i have 010 on it thanks brian
I like the D'Addario J80s for my octave mandolins. E 0.012 E 0.012 A 0.022 A 0.022 D 0.032 D 0.032 G 0.046 G 0.046 I like that they are in unison instead of octaves like a 12 string guitar. Sounds more like a Octave Mandolin than a 12 string guitar that way. You get the full advantage of the lowness that is the Octave Mandolin.
