Hi, I am a newbie when it comes to Phoenix. I am due to received a previously owned NeoClassical early next week and cannot wait to get my hands on it. I have a question about strings. Being primarily a bluegrass type player, I am not acquainted with Thomastik strings. I have heard of them and know they are expensive compared to other lines. Can anyone offer any advice. Are they worth the money? If I wanted a substitute for them, what would be a good option? Thanks, Nelson
Hi Nelson, Congratulations on getting the Neoclassical. It is built for light strings, and the Thomastiks last a long time and have a certain sound but are expensive. Other strings that could work are: Elixir Nanoweb light, Ernie Ball light, Earthwood light, and Jazzmando's JM11. But depending on how old the Neoclassical is, the string slots might have to be widened by .001" or .002" to keep the strings from binding.
Rolfe, I got the Neoclassical this week and love it. It is such fun to play. My hands seem to just glide around the neck. Very nice job.
