Hello fellow Newbies! Forgive me if this request duplicates previous posts, but I'm looking for recommendations for YouTube instructional videos that you believe have been (or are) particularly helpful in providing lessons for aspiring mandolin players -- old-time especially. Beginning, intermediate, or advanced lessons are fine, as I'm just curious about what's out there and what "favorites" you might have. Thanks for any suggestions you're willing to provide!
Here are some of my favorites: * Mike Marshall's 'Mandolin Tips' video done for the D'Addario strings website. * Tim O'Brien's 'Mandolin Warm-Up Tips' video, also for D'Addario. * A little more advanced, but excellent - A tutorial for REM's 'Losing My religion', posted in the 'Rock Music' genre section of the Cafe's forums.
These are great -- thanks for the recommendations! It's always nice knowing what insiders like you value among the wide array of videos that are out there. Gaining insight into the best of the best is quite helpful. Much appreciated!
For newbies, I think the free content of Brad Laird's mandolin classes (available on YouTube) is very useful. I never subscribed to the paid content because I have plenty of instructional materials to be working with. It's also always fun to have a look on YouTube for videos that vaguely represent where you want to go eventually - in my case, "medieval mandolin" is a favourite search term, for you "old time mandolin" may be appropriate. Also, don't overlook the videos posted on the Mandolin Cafe Forum by el cro - very very good.
I enjoyed Brad Laird's free classes, too. Also check out Pete Martin's 5-part youtube lessons which have excellent beginner advice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FudsS...eature=related And here's another good set of lessons: http://www.mandolessons.com/lessons/beginnerhome.html Enjoy!
Like the Brad Laird ones, have actually purchased one or two. Am kind of jaded towards the mandolessons as well, as Baron is my online instructor, but think he is a solid start as well.
Brad Laird's stuff is great...For folks who enjoy playing the Blues, Jim Richter's YouTube videos are awesome as well!
That "Losing My Religion" tutorial is great! Very good for practicing chord changes too.
