Hi there, I thought it would be nice to introduce myself.
My name is Dennis, 41 years, I live in Schiedam, the Netherlands with my wife, 3 kids, a dozen animals and bought my first mandolin last weekend, an Oscar Schmidt OM12.

I have been making music all my life, most of the time in metal and punkrock bands.....
A couple of weeks ago I wondered how to tune a mandolin and got hooked right away.....

I've been learning to play Lough Erin Shore and since it's almost christmas I'm going to try to nail down In Dulce Jubilo..... A nice challenge for a newbie don't you think????

Hi Dennis! Welcome aboard. You will find that this Newbie Group is not all that active. In fact this is the first time I've dropped by it in months. You'll get more replies on the main forums. Welcome to the world of traditional music. This is a great website to learn almost anything you want to know about mandos and mando music. Folks hear are polite and considerate and always willing to offer advice and opinions.

Hi Dennis! It is a nice challenge, and one that will be well worthwhile. Mandolin music is lovely at Christmas time. Well, any time of the year really.

Martin is right in saying that this newbie group hasn't been very active, but that's not to say that we can't make it so. When seeking advice, the main forum are your best port of call. A lot of very competent, sometimes professional, mandolinists and musicians there. This group is for us newbies to socialise and share experience. Welcome!

Welcome to the Cafe and to the Newbies, Dennis. I can agree with all that Martin and Gelsenbury said. Also I invite you to join those of us who are trying to locate and learn some easy songs together. We began with Greensleeves (I'm still working on it), so you can check that post. We are now in the process of looking for a second song, which discussion you can find under the Danny Boy post.
