Jill once said these two belong after Tarbolton, so I investigated. Played those two for several months now but never recorded them. Nice job on those two Bertram!!
Thanks Jill, and now I am looking forward to your rendition
That's an amazing pace, and I love the big bass drone.
Thanks Marcelyn - the bass and the pace are my usual ways
Nice one Bertram - cracking sound you're getting out of your OM.
Here is a slightly different version of the tune. I found this in a book I have, Irish Session Tunes, The Blue Book, selected by Brid Cranitch. X: 1 T: Longford Collector, The M: 4/4 L: 1/8 S: Irish Session Tunes, The Blue Book, selected by Brid Cranitch R: reel K: Gmaj |:G3A B3d|eBB2 eBdB|GFGA BddB|AdBA GEDE| G3A B3d|eBB2 d2ef|g2af gedB|1AdBA GEDE:|2AdBA GE E2|| |:g3a gedg|eBB2 d2ef|gfga gedB|AdBA GEE2| gfga gedg|eBB2 d2ef|g2af gedB|1AdBA GEDE:|2AdBA GE E2||
Thanks Tavy. Barb, that's exactly the kind of slight difference that makes me listen in a session - all dumbfounded and thinking "I know this tune, but what is it?" - only to recognize it and join in when it's too late.
Bertram, it's almost the same thing, but for me, at least, it's easier to figure out how insert the triplet ornamentations, if the "~" (which is left out of the abc I sent), is over a quarter note.... since that is how I learned triplet ornamentations... that it was a triplet (3 notes) in place of a quarter note. It just throws me off, to have the "~" over a dotted quarter note! By the way, the book I got it from, is arranged in 'sets', and this one is Tarlbolton Reel, The Longford Collector, and Sailor's Bonnet! Jill must know her stuff!
Wowsa Bertram! I think I saw smoke rising from the fretboard.
Well Barb, I must admit that I always strip all the ornaments from any ABC before I start to practice a new tune. So I never saw those "~" in action. Martin, that must have been a camera artefact What I sometimes think I see are tiny electric sparks under my fretting fingers, but it is really just light reflected from the dents in the frets - time for refretting draws near.
