I haven't seen any discussion or mention of Dave Apollon. Just in case y'all are not aware of this individual I'm going to post some of the YouTube vids I've found of him. Jethro Burns considered him to be the greatest mandolin player...I don't recall Jethro's exact words. Here they are for your viewing pleasure. (That's Victor Borge (?) on piano)
Dave and his Filipino orchestra playing "Sweet Sue." Some nice instrumentals and instruments. I believe David Grisman has re-released his album in cd-rom. One of the killer tunes Dave does is The Russian Rag.
I believe this is all that's out on YouTube of Dave.
Yes, it's Victor. The story of Apollon's life is even wilder than his playing. I have a CD someplace, if you want.
Thanks for the offer. I'd had the vinyl years ago b4 and don't know as it survived the housefire...a lot of my vinyls were warped badly from the heat.
On the Sweet Sue video, what is that instrument at the 50 second mark?
It's a banduria. David Grisman wrote a good article on Dave Apollon on Mandozine.
