Tourdion: Quand je bois du vin clairet

    This is a famous French renaissance dance, attributed to Pierre Blondeau but first popularised by Pierre Attaignant around 1530 under the title "Tourdion La Magdalena". This was shortly afterwards arranged by an anonymous composer into a four-part vocal piece with the title "Quand je bois du vin clairet" and also included in the Orchesography by Thoinot Arbeau in 1589.

    I'm playing the top three voices from a four-part vocal arrangement found on the website of Steven Hendricks:

    Treble voice on my Embergher bowlback mandolin, alto voice on my 1925 Zimmermann waldzither (tuned GDAEA), tenor voice on tenor guitar tuned GDAE.

    As these harmonies are from the vocal version of the tune, it's a bit slower and less driving rhythmically than the more familiar dance tune incarnation.

    Quand je bois du vin clairet, ami, tout tourne et tourne et tourne et tourne,
    Alors désormais je bois Anjou ou Arbois
    Chantons et buvons, à ce flacon faisons la guerre;
    Chantons et buvons, mes amis, buvons donc!

    I recorded this on tenor guitar this morning and, by sheer coincidence, spotted your version here, Martin! I humbly append my version...
