I finally took the plunge and ordered a Stiver F which arrived today. It feels a bit like going on a first date in that I may need some time to get to know my new friend. It's my first time, independent builder and first time radius fretboard. Let's see how we go. What strings work best for you? What is your string height at the 12th fret?
Frank: I used D'Addario EXP74 phosphor bronze strings. String height is about 4/64 on the G and E strings at the twelfth fret, but I am gradually inching it up to 5/64 on the G. But like everyone else, I'm trying to find the balance between the best tone and ease of playing. Steve
Thank you Steve. I'm slowly finding that balance as well. I have tried a bunch of strings but keep coming back to the j74s so I guess they work for me. Cheers.
