Last night we made a lot of progress on Santa Morena by playing with a metronome together. I thought the metronome was immensely useful for helping us stay together, and I hope you all continue to incorporate it in your individual practices. (Personally, I am a big fan of using a metronome when learning a new piece.) Once we've internalized the grooves on the page, we can work on the fun part of listening and responding to each other. Here's a nice video of Sierra Hull talking about how to challenge oneself with a metronome during practice. She also acknowledges the limitations of the metronome, noting the shifting grooves that happen during live performance!
