Did anyone notice that Andy's Western Red Cedar over Ovangkol Scout #62 is currently listed for $1000? http://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/92896#92896
No, but that's a great deal. Should make a nice Christmas present for someone. How's your #73 coming along?
My #73 should begin construction next month. Andy picked out a really nice piece of wide grained Adirondack red spruce for the top and I picked up a Waverly cloud tailpiece to complete the look!
pheffernan - Home stretch! Looking forward to seeing the final product.
Poe #2 is up for sale in the classifieds. If I didn't already own 2 Poes, I'd be all over that one! It was one of many Poes that lit my fire. Go to Andy's web site and check out the photos. The flamed maple back is outstanding! Whoever buys it, please give a report.
My buddy is the one selling Poe #2. It's gorgeous. I might be able to secure some recordings if anyone is interested, as well as a brief review.

Steve has generously offered to part with his F5 so that another lucky soul can join our ranks: http://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/94039#94039
Yeah, regretfully. I bought an Ellis A, so I have to give up another favorite to defray the cost. But I'm never selling my A5 Poe. Besides its good looks and sentimental value, it has the best tone/volume combination of all my mandolins.
A couple of Andy's recent Scouts have turns up in the classifieds. The earlier#67 looks like an Army-Navy model with a one piece birch back: http://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/101334#101334 The latter #68 has more the look of an Alrite albeit with maple back and sides: http://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/100651#100651
Those look like an outstanding value. Do you have a delivery date for #73 yet?
Andy and I made an agreement to push the delivery date back to January in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Alrite!
Just saw this post. I was the one lucky enough to snag Poe #002. The A5 black top. My report is that this mando is never leaving my possession! The sound and build quality are outstanding. And it is the most comfortable mandolin that I have ever played. I love it more each time I pick it up. A while back I posted a sound clip, vs. my 85 Flatiron A5 Artist in the "Let's hear some Poe" thread. My playing certainly does not do this mandolin justice though..

I see it’s gone. Do you think it was bogus?
I hope it wasn’t bogus! I expect delivery on Friday.
There sure is a lot of enthusiasm in this group for Andy’s instruments. I’ve never even seen one in person. I hope I like #64. Does Andy make an oval-A model? If so, any comments, say comparisons to other As?
Ok, sorry. I’m just getting on board here. I see that Andy clearly makes (or made) oval-hole mandolins, and that people who own them like them. I guess I should lurk awhile longer....
Welcome to the club Mike. Let us know how you like your Scout.
I emailed Andy and got a great reply. I was asking about carved A oval-hole mandolins, to which he replied, but somehow he knew I’d purchased #64. He congratulated me and recommended strings for it. He said this mandolin was custom made for classical music and required light strings. The seller mentioned the strings, but not the other part. I didn’t think to ask. The sale happened rather suddenly (hard to explain). I might have held off if I’d known that this was a custom instrument. I’m not a classical player, and prefer a more standard mandolin, even in a pancake model. Well, it should arrive tomorrow (Friday). Maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised. I’m hoping so. Andy’s email was really was a pleasant surprise. Warm, friendly, full of stuff I didn’t even ask about. He sounds like a great guy to work with. Regardless of what happens with #64, i could see another Poe mandolin in my future.
That’s great news, Mike. Andy’s website hasn’t been updated in some time, and to be honest, I had wondered if he was okay and still building.
I’d ordered a Baritone Ukulele from Andy quite awhile back. I heard from him very recently that he’s getting close to finishing it so I am a very happy man! Andy is a really nice young man and I’m glad he’s getting back to the thing he loves - building beautiful and beautiful sounding instruments!!
#64, which has been listed everywhere from $550 to $1750 through the years and most recently at $825, is back in the classifieds for $1200: https://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/177853#177853
