Here’s a nice bouncy little tune I recorded last Christmas day, and it seems I neglected to share it with you guys. -I must have been having too much fun in Lockdown! https://youtu.be/Jl7yXvac2mE Nothing comes up as a tune search for this title on MC, hope this isn’t an error thing.
Nice bouncy tune! Thanks...
Enjoyed the music. Missed the hat.
That's a great wee tune, Simon, and well played. Nice to hear it with no backing too.
Thanks guys, yes I like it too, it’s just a simple tune. I first heard it years ago in California played with a more extended rhythm. I like the repetitive A part. I use the tune as a trance, warm up, loosen up, rhythm exercise with the metronome set on my 6/8 hesitation rhythm -the time intervals (1,2,3 4,5,6) are not all exactly equal. I used to have to watch TV while playing this, because it’s so repetitive, but now my fingers feel more relaxed with it, like a form of meditation.
Well done, Simon. Lawrence aka gortnamona did a fine recording of this jig as second tune in a set.
That was a fun tune Simon!
It has that "Humpty Dumpty" rhythm that makes you fall off the wall...
Ha, ha, Humpty what? Bertram what do you mean? Too regular? English Country Dance rhythm? -I actually did try a more extended 6/8 rhythm a couple of days ago, but it sounded to my ears just the same!
Simon, I always thought everybody knew those Mother Goose rhymes, and Humpty Dumpty ist the most famous of them...
Fine tune, great playing and a bouncy rhythm, Simon.
I finally heard some foot tapping there the last time through. A fine tune and played very well.
Nice one Simon!
lovely tune , well played as usual Simon
Published this video here…having noted Lawrence did a version earlier than the start of this thread, but linked with another tune. As the thread Simon started was solely for this tune I thought it relevant to post here. Fylde signature touchstone mandolin.
Very nicely played John, beautiful tone too. I really like this tune. There are quite a few different settings: https://thesession.org/tunes/search?...re+In+The+Corn I played the one that’s sometimes called The Cat in the Corner. Fine playing, John.
Mighty fine playing, John.
Thanks very much Simon, John and Frithjof. Simon, I used the first sheet music listed on The Session as my starting point for the dots (provided by JMH 18 years ago) https://thesession.org/tunes/1736
That’s how I can play this jig at the moment. https://youtu.be/eREAsIWajZU
Fine playing John and Frithjof. Love the tone you get from that cool-looking mandolin, Frithjof. I would hate to change strings on it with that slotted headstock.
Thanks Don. Re the slotted headstock: You are exactly right! It’s my secret when I last time did the job. But for traditional music it’s probably allowed to sound a little old-timely.
Verry NIce!!
Sweet playing Frithjof, love the light triplets and what a cool mandolin!
Glad to see you got around to playing this tune, Frithjof…hope you enjoyed doing so.
Thanks Frank, Simon and John.
great stuff John and Frithjof, I've been enjoying following this one with the cliffs of moher recently
Thanks Lawrence.
Fine version, Frithjof. That mandolin of yours is a powerful instrument.
Both John W. and Frithjof deliver fine versions!
Thank you, Christian.
