another one... the Warlocks (IT/Scottish).
I'd like to add Tail Toddle (Scots Reel) and Stingo (Old English Ballad), just for fun.
Here's one for you - The Sleeping Tune, by Gordon Duncan. A beautiful pipe tune that sounds great on a fiddle. Might sound great on a mandolin
I suggest Diabinho Maluco, Brazilian choro. If you're interested check out the YouTubes of this tune with Dudu Maia, and several others.
in tribute to the late, great Barney McKenna 'The Maid Behind the Bar'. Surprised it hasn't been on the list already...unless I missed it somewhere?
I suggest "8 1/2 theme" (Nino Rota).
Or "Amarcord"
Pierpalo S, I'll add them to the list.... what genre are they?
Barbara, I dont't know, they are soundtracks, the first seems a circus music, the second seems a typical italian folk music with jazz flavour
Kentucky Mandolin - a classic Bill Monroe tune I would like to learn
I am new to the social group. I would like to see the following tunes tried out: 1. Swedish Jig 2. Mouth of the Tobique 3. Fleur de Mandragore 4. Muttering Woman 5. Reel des Forgerons (Blacksmiths' Reel) Some of the suggested lists of tunes are too long to digest in one sitting. I suggest that a cap of five tunes be put on each person to make it easier to decide which ones should be put up for a poll. Cheers Nic
The Burning of The Piper's Hut.
I'll contribute a gallon of gas...
Ha, ha that's very funny Eddie.
In honor of the great Doc, how about Watson's Blues - co-written by Bill Monroe and Doc, and often performed by them. Also a great David Grisman version on the Doc & Dawg album.
In the realm of long tunes, The King of the Pipers (Irish jig) is a fantastic tune.
The Lovers Waltz by Jay Ungar (Ashokan Farewell) and Molly Mason.
I'm new to the list. I very much enjoy learning from everyone's videos. There are lots of talented people on here. One of these days I'll get to the point where I can post one as well. I have a few tune suggestions: Black Velvet Waltz Crested Hens (sounds great on the fiddle and mandolin) 20/20 Vision by Jimmy Martin 99 Years and One Dark Day Catharsis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcRebynJBUE)
I second the proposal for King of the pipers (5 part jig) If I havent missed them in previous SAW tunes (I did check!) I also propose The Masons Apron (IT) Bucks of Oranmore (IT) Farewell to Ireland (IT) El Condor Pasa (Peruvian)
I'll second: Crested Hens Farewell to Ireland Mason's Apron
Thanks for the suggestions. Crested Hens was week #82, and Farewell to Ireland has a run as an Other Tune. While we have occasionally had tunes be tune of the week, after they've already had a run as an other tune, I'm going to try to avoid that, to keep this whole thing just a tad bit simpler!
Tallahassee??? I've tried looking for it, can't even find good tabs for it.
By the way, before someone says it.... I know the city is in Florida!
Some swing: Sweet Georgia brown Bie Mir Bis Du Schon
Denver Belle Black Mountain Air
Thanks for the tunes to put on the poll list. I have a request! When you suggest a tune, please include the genre of the tune (Bluegrass, IT, OT, movie theme, swing, Monroe, etc) When I populate the poll each week, I try to include a variety of genre. I'm not familiar with many of the tunes that are on this list, so it helps me make a good poll, if I know what genre they are! Also, I'd appreciate everyone to look over the poll tune discussions (it's in two parts, now!), and any tunes that are NOT identified with a genre, if you are familiar with them and could help me group them, send me a private message with the tunes and genre, and I'll update my lists! Thanks again to everyone who keeps this great group going!
Ode To a Butterfly by Nickel Creek? Bluegrass/Newgrass
The warlocks http://www.nigelgatherer.com/tunes/tab/tab12/warlk.html for a halloween special?
Please use this discussion to suggest new tunes for me to add to the poll list! If you add them here, I'll add them to the list I work from!
One Horned Sheep (IT jig)
"Tennesee Blues" from Skaggs&Rice. I recorded a version last weekend : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoxIviLW778 inspired by a beautiful version i found on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwNWxwYTaQQ . This tune turned out not to be too difficult..
bump
How about Blackberry Rag? I didn't see it anywhere, but then again I suffer from what my wife calls "Male Pattern Blindness" - failing to see things that are right in fron of your face - mostly things in the refrigerator and pantry
And another version
Eight More Miles To Louisville - BG
I'll second that Eddie, Eight more miles to Louisville.
Sunshine Hornpipe I'm practising on a jig I know as "Phantom Whistler" from a first part of an instrumental from the McCalmans. It's played on an English concertina amazingly by Hamish Bayne, who is a concertinabuilder nowadays Thanks to Bertram Henze, He knew this tune was called Sunshine Hornpipe 2 examples here
Wagon Wheel
Hey, ya'll, Please take a moment to look through the two lists here (one at the bottom of page 3 of this discussion that starts out The list has gotten too long for just one post! Here's PART 1 of the current list I'm working from:, and the second list at the top of page 4 that starts out Here is PART 2 of the current list I'm working from: These are the lists that I am using to populate the polls. I have removed the tunes that we have already done (216 of them so far!), and tunes that have numbers after them, and then x's are tunes that have been on the polls, but never won a poll. I have two requests. If you know the genre of any of the tunes listed (that don't already have the genre listed as well), please let me know, so I can add it. Secondly, I could use some new tunes added to this list. What we have remaining (and identified with the genre) is MOSTLY bluegrass. We could use some other genre tunes to add to the list. I try to include a variety of genre in each poll. If you just submit the name of the tune (and genre PLEASE!) to this discussion, I'll add it to the lists. Oh, and it would sure help me out, if before you suggested a tune, you checked it against the "OFFICIAL TUNES" to make sure it hasn't already been a Song of the Week! Thanks!!!!
Hey Barbara, thanks for all you do to keep things running smoothly around here. in scanning down the list, I see a few tunes that did win in the poles and weren't removed from the list. Marcelyn, thanks! Every little bit helps! My life has been pretty hectic of late (when has it NOT been hectic, haha!) I've been doing good to get a poll, and poll results posted in somewhat of timely manner.... but not much more!

Let me know whenever I can be useful. In looking for some good old time tunes, I found that your unlabeled "Greasy Coat" seems to fall into the OT category. A good number of the BG tunes on the list could go either way too. I'll get some fun suggestions together ASAP. We haven't had enough O'Carolan tunes on the list. Maybe David could put his favorites up for nomination.
Well, Barbara, you don't have to use all these--it's hard not to get carried away. Anyway, here's some OT tunes I've checked out and think would be great fun to learn sometime. Here are some more ideas for you Barbara. Out of 216 weeks, how is it we've only done a handful of O'Carolan tunes? I went to David's You Tube channel, because if anyone can pick 'em, he can. Here are the ones we haven't yet covered. The bonus is, any of these that get voted in come with a pre-made master example.
