Franz Lehár (1870-1948): Der Graf von Luxemburg/The Count Of Luxembourg Waltz No. 2. This is a tune from Lehar's operetta "The Count Of Luxemburg". Lehar has included four separate waltzes in the operetta -- this is the second of them. A different (and more obscure) tune from the one commonly known as "The Count Of Luxembourg Waltz", which was added by Lehar for the London stage adaptation. I'm playing the waltz in E major (not a common mandolin key), using an arrangement for bandurrias from: https://jidumicodi.jimdofree.com/cl%C3%A1sicas/ (they call it "Vals de los besos", which is wrong I think -- the "Kusswalzer" is a Johann Strauss II tune). 1890 Giuseppe Vinaccia mandolin (x2) Mid-Missouri M-111 octave mandolin Suzuki MC-815 mandocello Vintage Viaten tenor guitar https://youtu.be/uiBG3OZdOJI Martin
There is something about Lehar's music that appeals to me, Martin. I love listening to the song Vilja from The Merry Widow. You ventured far up the dusty end of the fingerboard on this one, I noticed - well played.
Verry pretty Martin!
Thanks, John and Frank! I like the tune, but playing in E Major is a bit awkward (and a bit high, as John has noted). I suspect it's because the setting is intended for bandurrias where E major is very easy indeed as you can use all six open strings (G#, c#, f#, b, e and a) in the E major scale, and the highest note of the tune is the seventh fret on the top string. John: I like Lehar too -- I have in the past recorded both "Vilja" and "Love Unspoken", in each case based on the settings in our group repertoire folders. Martin
That was very nice.-
Fine playing as usual, Martin.
