This is an Italian renaissance tune, a Neapolitan villanella from the 16th century, originally used in staged performances of the Commedia dell'Arte. Ricciulina (also spelled Ricciolina) was one of the female stock characters in the Commedia dell'Arte. This arrangement is by John T La Barbera, from his book "Traditional Southern Italian Mandolin & Fiddle Tunes". I play it as a duet on my Vinaccia, with tenor guitar accompaniment. 1898 Giuseppe Vinaccia mandolin (x2) Vintage Viaten tenor guitar https://youtu.be/tbrJxt9K1G0 Martin
Sounds great, Martin, I like the dynamic nuances you include.
Thanks, Christian. Yes, I thought it would be effective playing the repeats as a quieter echo -- I've also changed the accompaniment style from chords to arpeggions in the piano sections. Martin
Great sounding recording, Martin! Melody and accompaniment go well together.
