I have read many forum lines but am still confused. Are TI strings 174, either medium or lite okay for a 16" scale length, like a Collings or an older gibson H2?

Although I don't have personal experience with TI strings, the following topic has a positive comment and advice (removing some of the winding on one string) for using the light gauges on a 16" scale-length CGDA-tuned instrument. Good luck!

I use normal gauge flat wound strings from the eMando web site. Be sure to get the loop end strings (not ball end). Here's the link: https://emando.com/shop/

I use them on an Eastman 805 mandola and a Clark mandola. The Clark has Twin K pick ups and I play through a Baggs DI. The Clark sound great both acoustically and amplified with these strings. I like the smooth sound as I typically play jazzy material like D'jango and the Great American Songbook. If you're going for the more folky sound you might try their bronze round wound

What are the scale lengths on your mandolas? What gauges do you employ?
