Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943): "Vocalise", from "Fourteen Songs" (1915, Op. 34, No. 14) Arranged for violin trio by R.K. Deverich This is the famous "Vocalise" played as a mandolin trio. My recording is based on a heavily simplified violin trio setting by RK Deverich from: http://www.violinonline.com/freevocalise.html I'm playing the melody on my 1915 Luigi Embergher bowlback mandolin, which dates from the same year as this piece! The two lower voices can be played on either mandolin or mandola -- I play them on my 1920s German 10-string waldzither which has been set up as a combined mandolin/mandola. 1915 Luigi Embergher mandolin 1920s 10-string mandolin/mandola tuned CGDAE https://youtu.be/XaTEaJZFkR4 Martin
The heavily simplified … trio setting works great. Well played by you on these good old instruments.
Simplified doesn’t mean simple…an interesting variation of mood with this Rachmaninov.
