Thin-sounding bass on my 604

Maybe someone in this group can help me figure this out.
I bought a 604 about a year ago as an upgrade from the inexpensive Fender I'd been playing. The tone, feel, and volume of the new instrument is, in general, very good. The higher registers up the neck absolutely sing. My only reservation is that the bass response, the g string in particular, is weak. Other instruments of similar quality that I have played, swapping instruments at jams and whatnot, deliver a punchy, committed bottom end. So, in fact, does my cheap Fender.
    Some theories:
Is it the difference between f- and oval-hole mandolins?
Do I need to look at replacing the bridge?
Do I need to embrace diversity and accept that my mandolin is just different?
I've never played another 604 so I don't know if my observation is typical, or not.
    Any thoughts?

Every mandolin is different, so it could be any or all of the things you have suggested. You could take it to someone for a great setup, and it might come back sounding much the same. If you're not enjoying the instrument, the best advice I believe is to trade it up for one you do like. Someone else may love it just as it is.

Trying some different strings might be a good step.
