The Hampton Roads Mandolin Ensemble is a recently formed group of players with an interest in preserving and continuing the tradition of mandolin groups. Our musical interests are wide ranging and our developing repertoire reflects that. Currently we have 7 members (5 mandolins, 1 mandola, 1 mandocello). We rehearse about twice a month and alternate rehearsal locations between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. If you play a mandolin family instrument, read standard notation, and have an interest in joining us, please contact me by PM. We are especially keen to have another mandola player join us.

The Hampton Roads Mandolin Ensemble (HRME) continues to look for musicians who play one or more of the following instruments; Mandolin, Mandola, Octave Mandolin or Mandocello.

The HRME was formed in 2008 by a group of local mandolin-family musicians from Williamsburg, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Suffolk. We play a variety of styles of music in the tradition of the mandolin orchestras of the 1900-1920s. Music selections range from Turn-of-the-Century Rags and Marches, Classical, Italian, Irish, Jazz, Brazilian, to seasonal pieces.

Please consider joining us at our weekly practices starting in January 2010. Contact John Kasley at (757) 598-0103 (Peninsula) or Lori Hays at (757) 463-7274 (Southside) for more information. You can also contact us by email: jakasley@gmail.com

Curious yet? Drop in for a practice session! You can tune up and play with us for a song or two. We’d be happy to send you a couple of our pieces for your instrument. Interested players should have the ability to read music in standard notation. Contact us at one of the above phone numbers/email and we’ll let you know the dates/locations of upcoming rehearsals.
