    Hi all.

I have been enjoying your playing a while, so I decided to step up and join. I'm a newbie with very little experience (2 yrs.)

My question, Is there an easy Mac software to convert the ABC that I'm seeing to Tab? It would have to be easy as I am new to Mac as well.

    Thanks

    Lou

    Hi Lou,
While this is not a direct answer to your question, I have been able to find tab for nearly every tune that has been posted here without having to convert it from the ABC (I haven't learned to read ABC yet either). A google search for "name of song' mandolin tab' usually brings up several hits. This link also has quite a number of tunes in tab, standard notation and even midi so you can hear the melody - http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/ma...dolin-tab.html. I hope that helps!

I don't do tab, but I think there are several out there for the mac. On my mac I used to have barfly (which I think does tab) and I also use melody assistant which I'm 99% sure does tab.

Check out this website for options: http://abcnotation.com/software

It's a pretty good place to start, for both music and learning the basics of ABC's.

Harmony Assistant and Tabledit both work well on all of the iterations of Mac operating systems including Lion. A good thread is here that shows which programs work.

Thanks Hastyman, I'm looking over some of the articles on ABC at that site now.

Thanks mikeyes, I do have Lion. I will read through the thread.

Lou, I almost forgot about this video I made a while back about importing files into Melody assistant. This might give you an idea of how that program works...

Thanks Hastyman, that makes it look easy. I do need to make sure it will do tab. I'll look into it.

I would really like to read notation but these eyes are just too old.

Looks like melody assistant can do tab according to their website:

I'm not where I can look right now but I can check later on this evening and let you know.
