I'm a complete newbie, and am looking for people in SW Michigan who might know of gatherings where I can come and join in...jams or what have you. I need to surround myself with people who are into, and can answer questions about, and give me tips on mando. Any suggestions? Anyone from within an hour of Holland?
godinguy, Welcome! If you are into bluegrass, there's the West Michigan Bluegrass Association. You might want to PM Bill Van Liere, who lives in the GR area and knows the territory better than I. He may know of other jam venues. Good luck and let us know what you find. Steve

Billie Irvine is hosting a jam now in Hanover MI (in Jackson County) at the Museum there, but it only runs October to April I think? Should be starting up again. I went a few times and there was a pretty good turn out. He was doing it the 3rd Saturday evening of each month for the 2011-2012 season.
