I apologize if this is already common knowledge, but it always seemed to me that Mike Dulak was kind of secretive about exactly what type of finish he uses. His old Web site had a picture of him wiping it on. The original literature that came with my Mid Missouri claimed that they didn't know what was in it. That never made sense to me. Now Mike's new and improved Web site is up and it looks great! Under the FAQ section it says that he uses "Behlen's Padding Finish" which is a "shellac/alcohol" product applied by "French polishing". I could not find anything called Behlen's Padding Finish online but I did find "Behlen's Qualasol Padding Finish" which is indeed a shellac/alcohol product. This is good knowledge for us to have and thanks to Mike for providing it. A shellac based finish is a good choice for this type of instrument. Just don't spill your whiskey on it! Alcohol dissolves shellac!
