This is a song by Richard Thompson, from his first solo album "Henry The Human Fly" in 1972, which I have played as an instrumental cover on mandolin and tenor guitar. Melody and chord progression from the transcription in the offical "Richard Thompson Songbook: Vol. 1" by Maartin Allcock. Mid-Missouri M-0W mandolin Vintage Viaten tenor guitar I have done a couple more Thompson songs over the weekend, which I'll post separately. Martin
A nice slow tune. Well done, Martin.
You have certainly been on Thompson journey this weekend, Martin. All fine interpretations and arrangements.
Thanks, Frithjof and John! Christian had asked in the other thread about the sources of the three RT songs I've recorded this weekend. "The Poor Ditching Boy" has been frequently re-surfaced since the original 1972 studio recording. Here is RT's original 1972 studio recording: https://youtu.be/S3GVZMChdUU His 2017 re-recording on the album "Acoustic Rarities" (which includes RT playing a mandolin break!): https://youtu.be/LFwDJlKqeEk And a very different-sounding cover version by Solas: https://youtu.be/_BEn_rx_-WE Martin
I enjoyed this one very much Martin. Is the sheet music available somewhere??
Thanks, Ginny. It's fun to play on mandolin -- one of those tunes that falls into place if you sing along with Thompson's phrasing in your head. I was using the official songbook, which is still available directly from Thompson's US online shop here: https://www.theconnextion.com/richar...451&prodlist=1 It's good but pretty expensive. If you only want this one song, it's cheaper from here (same arrangement as the book as far as I can tell from the preview): https://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusi...?ppn=MN0094819 Martin
Thanks Martin. I use musicnotes a lot.
