THIS TUNE IS ALSO KNOWN AS: CAROLAN’S CUP The last of the woodland excursion vids. https://youtu.be/hu838qJeBo4
The woodland excursion has payed off: last fine tune played relaxedly!
We often hear about mandolinists playing in "the zone", now we know what it looks like. Timeless beehive dreaminess again, this time with a slight but audible hurdy gurdy wheel rasp in the drones.
Lovely tune, lovely setting to be playing in too!
So nice! Some bars of this tune remind me of Carolan's Cup.
Thanks guys, I appreciate your kind comments. Over here it’s the end of the evening lockdown, so no risk of fines for being in the wrong zone at the wrong time. It would be nice Dennis, but I have a lot more tunes to record and more places to record them. Another avalanche of random tunes in a couple of weeks or so. Nice! Ooops I think Carolan’s cup is another title for the same tune! https://thesession.org/tunes/3422 It’s the same tune as: http://www.rudemex.co.uk/library/RM_...0The%20(a).pdf The title on this page is all busted up, wrong! And now you’ve made me feel stupid. Thanks Dennis!
I don't think it's the same tune. It just has some similar phrases.
I’m not sure, I recorded Brink of the White Rocks without ever having actually heard it before. On thesession it’s written as a jig but I see it more as a waltz (or even a Scottish Air, though I’m sure there are others on SAW who would have a better idea).
Don't worry about the name business, Simon, it's a constant source of confusion. Let's all meet in the middle and call it "O'Carolan's Welcome to the White Socks", honoring Francis O'Neill's successful career and giving it a Scottish feel of a name in one go
A fine tune, Simon. I am in agreement with you about the possibilities of the tune as a slow air or waltz. Might be worth exploring this idea further.
