There seems to be no thread for this well known song, so I had to create one. What inspired me to play it on the mandolin was Carlo Aonzo's solo mandolin version on the Tone Poets CD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8t9oHYtc834
He plays melody and accopaniment all at once. Very impressive!
But I'm not such a virtuoso, so I had to record a guitar backup and play the melody on my mandolin. (maybe John will sing that tune too )

Nice arrangement, Christian, and a great sound, especially in the higher octave. The lyrics are really for a female singer - "Oh where, tell me where, has my Highland laddie gone..."! Now, come to think of it, Bertram said on the Jock o' Hazeldean thread that my vocal efforts reminded of a scratchy vinyl recording he had of Gaelic women from the Isle of Barra singing their waulking songs as they worked the rolls of tweed they were processing!
