The Humours Of Nairnshire

This is a fairly obscure Scottish jig, published in 1798 by Nathaniel Gow (the fourth son of Niel Gow) -- so obscure that I can't find any other online version and it's not listed at The Session. They say that Scottish tunes are spikier than Irish ones because they were written down earlier before folk tradition had a chance to smoothen them, and this is an case in point: a really nice tune, but the wide arpeggios keep you on your toes.

My arrangement is based on a setting from "Evelyn's Big Book For Mandolins for the Year 2015".

    1898 Giuseppe Vinaccia mandolin (x2)
    Mid-Missouri M-111 octave mandolin
    Suzuki MC-815 mandocello

You really bring Evelyn's arrangement to life, Martin. Nice tune and beautiful sounding mandolins.

Thanks, Christian and Frithjof. i really enjoyed playing this tune -- it's equally exciting as challenging to interpret a tune where I couldn't find any existing examples to give me an idea of what it's meant to sound like.
