Thanks, John. I can't find the link for that mandolin harmony part now, but I think it adds a kick to the repeat to lift what is otherwise a somewhat droney melody. Not easy to play, though, as the phrasing is so different between melody and harmony. I've tried playing the melody on mandolin, but it works better on the OM to sit in the range of Tommy's tenor voice. Martin
Nice stuff Martin. I'm no expert, but I always thought of Tommy Makem as a baritone.
Hi Bren. You may well be right. I'm playing the song in D Major and in that key the range of the melody on OM is more tenor than baritone. I thought that was Tommy's original key, but I now see that it's more commonly sung a fifth lower in G major, and that would indeed put it in the baritone range. Martin
