Very nice and stately playing, Barbara.

That tremelo is really resounding on the Om Barbara. That's a great idea. And a wonderful upbeat and springy version from you, Manfred. I learned the way you all are playing this one and really like it. I'll have to post it sometime.

What a lot of great versions of Bonaparte's Retreat have been posted. David mentioned a tune he found entitled: Bonaparte's March. I dunno what Irish tune it sounds like, but when I listened to it again I realized that this tune sounds very similar to Bonaparte's March. The one I've posted has always been called "Bonaparte Crossing the Rocky Mountains" around here...

So many versions and styles. Manfred, thanks for the lesson. Last week I looked at the B part in Fiddler’s Fakebook and thought, maybe in a year or two. Very solid playing. Michael, very nice slant and thanks for the smile.

This is a version I found on Mandozine.com practice tunes. It's a Bluegrass version written by Mike Strangeland. I liked it a lot, so I thought I'd try to learn this version to do a different take on this tune. Little did I realize how time consuming it was to learn the cross-picking part in it. I still didn't get it completely right, but this is my best effort so far. I'm playing with my (new to me) Collings MF5-V mandolin.

    Here's the ABC on it.

Really great playing, Frank -- I love the different style you put on every repetition of the tune, especially the high version up the neck. Just effortless energy and skill!

Also remarkable that nobody has posted a version of this classic tune in over ten years, and not that many versions originally either. Well overdue a revival.
