Streets of Laredo

We probably already have a thread with this song, but as usual. I couldn't find it.
It's in Paul Hardy's tunbook. I changed the chords a bit and, as an exercise, I played played it an octave higher during the repetition.

A fine delivery on this old country evergreen, Christian. I like the upper octave you introduce. The tune is very similar to a great old Irish song, The Bard of Armagh, and I remember another version of the tune called Only The Heartaches performed by Houston Wells and the Marksmen back in the early 1960s! Showing my age there.

Interesting about the history of the tune, John. Nice playing Christian. It's hard to get good tone way up there on the neck. You sound great.

Great choice of tune Christian, unfortunately I'm on an old computer at 'La Poste' in a tiny village in the south of France. So it's not possible to actually hear you!
(I'm sure it's beautifully played, will hear it later)

A bit more on Houston Wells, Don. He was actually a British singer, from Northumberland in England, and this song was probably his biggest hit. He died back in 2013. Here is a link to his song on YT: https://youtu.be/DCf3jwDwmXo

Nice playing Christian and nice style of singing John, another to learn.

Thanks for the motivation to record this Christian.

It’s insanely hot out in the streets here. I’m working inside, editing a music vid called Streets of Laredo here in a shopping plaza among beautiful trees.

Thanks, John, Don and Simon! Great version you played, Simon.
I didn't know Bard of Armagh, but I found a version of Vince Gill with three verses of "Armagh" and three of "Laredo" recorded for a CD project called A long Journey home with songs that made their way across the Atlantic.
So, in spite of the heat, I tried Bard of Armagh:

Nice one again, Christian, and good use of the higher octave once again.

Very nice, both Christian and Simon (nice variations in style). I thought I had recorded this song myself in the past, but I don't think I have. Neither has anybody else in the SAW group as far as I can tell -- we have a thread for cowboy songs, but no recordings of Streets Of Laredo in that thread.

More sweet playing CC, I like the reverb, sounds like you’re playing in a desert chapel, waiting for the action to begin.
    Thanks Martin, I’d forgotten:

Well there you go, I had thought Laredo was in Spain or Italy, though they do probably have cowboys over there too.
