Thanks Ginny, but that right leg, I can’t stop it! With some of these tunes it’s a job to stop myself from dancing away. I think this Octave has some sort of curse on it. A dancing curse. ‘He who so ever shall play music of a jig-like nature on this very instrument shall verily...’ I did murmuring at the beginning too, like Keith Jarrett, but different, rougher... I’ll try a different genre tomorrow.
Nice playing, atsunrise! You can always try recording with your shoe off and the stockinged foot will not be picked up so much by your mic, though as Ginny says, it provides percussion. I too am a compulsive tapper, and often have both feet going at different tempos. When I record I usually have my shoes off and have a rug or carpet underfoot too, and I also use a closed-cell foam tile, the sort that link into big squares for children to play on, under the mic stand to help absorb unwanted sounds.
Thanks John, yes it’s a good idea about the socks but unfortunately over here it doesn’t work. It may be the movement of the sock or the more likely the smell, but as soon as I pick up my Octave, the Cat starts to wag her tail like a dog. I begin the tune and within 3 measures I’m shouting, and hopping around the room with my little room mate hanging on like a ferret. Then it’s time to take a break, have a cup of tea and look for bandages.
Lovely - and keep tapping! I'm a big fan of foot tapping when playing trad tunes - love to hear the percussive sound of someone keeping the beat while they play! Lots of great players (like Martin Hayes for example) do this, so it's all good!

I found this kind of fun to play around with. Maybe not play thirds all the way through, but, for example, it sounds cool to suddenly jump in at the end of each part, in harmony, like the way singers sometimes do. Hey Gelsenbury, no problem, it’s a difficult tune. I had the first part quite some time ago and was REALLY happy just with that, the second part is something else! I’ve been thinking more about right hand technique recently, because we tend to look just at the fretboard, doing right hand ‘air guitar’, it seems to help. Oops! Doubled the thread, sorry!
