Or slow BG tunes, like Willow Garden, Shady Grove etc.

Good choices of tunes here! I'm a great oldtime lover, and just recently decided that bluegrass is not for me (even if I'll probably continue playing it a little, no great ambitions though), for reasons I won't go into here. I loove oldtime music and oldtime musicians and everything oldtime!

    A few other tunes:

Big Scioty (not sure if it has been up)
Old Joe Clark (what's wrong with standard tunes?)
    Seneca square dance
Bound to have a little fun
    Flop eared mule
Midnight on the water (lovely ot waltz)

So this is how it works is it??? I wasn't sure when I put up a tune in the song and tune projects forum...

People submit suggested tunes here, and then a number are chosen for each week?

    Chris
  12. Barbara Shultz
    Barbara Shultz
Chris, welcome to the group! The way the group works is: Every week (or so) I put up a poll in the regular message board under Song & Tune projects. Each member of the social group can vote, and on Friday mid dayish, I announce the winner. I come up with the tunes for the polls from this list of suggestions from the members.

We also encourage you to video yourself doing any tune you like, and submit them whenever you want, with the name of the tune as the title of the discussion. I then link to them in the 'table of contents ~ other tunes'. Some of these tunes will have other members also submit their videos of that tune, other tunes, it's just the one video. This way, you can share the tunes that you like, or do well, or whatever, with the rest of us.

As far as the official tune of the week, you can submit your videos to these tunes whenever you want.... just because you are starting here at week 20, you can go back and 'revive' those old threads by sumbitting your video.

We have a wide range of talent and tastes here in the group, and I try to incorporate several different genre of tunes for the poll, but popular vote always wins.

Welcome, and we're looking forward to seeing some of your videos!

    Barb

I like instrumentals well enough, but I'd like to see some more tunes that have vocals in 'em too.

It may be a bit selfish, but it gives me ideas for songs to learn and take back to my band for subsequent vocal and solo massacres!

Kentucky Waltz is a good example of that. It's great to hear different people's ideas of breaks for the same tune.

Manfred, have you explored the 'table of contents'; both the official tunes, and the other tunes. Also, this message board has a search function, so if you are curious if a tune has been discussed, just type the appropriate term in the search window, and that should net you some results!

Seems like many of the suggestions have already been done as "unofficial" tunes. Do we really want to repeat tunes already done?
  40. Barbara Shultz
    Barbara Shultz
That question has come up before. It seems that some people give the 'official tune of the week' more credence than the 'other tunes'. Some of these tunes, as other tunes, may just have had the original video, and then one or two reply videos. Logic says that if you are interested in learning that tune, or videoing, you could do it in that thread. But, I think when it is the official tune, more people seem to jump on board. That's why I've chosen to go ahead and put tunes in the polls that already have been posted as 'other tunes', if someone has suggested it to be considered for an official tune.

Since this brings this topic back up, I'll take this opportunity to ask for more tune suggestions. If possible, include the genre.
