This is a trio of tunes we do as a set with our group. Man In The Moon and Orange In Bloom are English Morris staples and The South Wind is well documented. I need to enrol at the Jill McAuley school of triplets as consistency is a problem for me! Sounds very good Tosh, nice work.
Great playing, Tosh. nice sound on that. My only question is, How do you explain 'Morris Dancing', to the Children I mean. Oh the humanity! monkeyhead
At least he doesn't have to explain clogging or buck and wing. Mind you, I think they're much the same as Morris Dancing from what I've seen anyway.
I think Morris has gone punk!!!!!
Very nice! I really like Morris music, and I'm trying to learn some on the squeezebox. When I was in Glasgow on Tuesday I found a little melodeon tutor book and saw that in the same series there were some Morris tune books. When I asked if they had them, the guy replied "no..hmm.. you're in the wrong country to be looking for Morris music!!". But I guess I'll learn some from the tune of the month forum at melodeon.net instead. Btw I think Orange in bloom was the tune of the month during the time when I wasn't able to participate. Nice to hear the South wind on the mandolin. I've always thought it sounds to dull on the mando, but you do it graciously.
Here is some insight into the tragedy of the Morris Dance. monkeyhead
Anyone knows what tune they are playing in this video??
My guess is 'the postman's knock'
For those interested, the last Canadian prosecution for failing to Morris Dance was I believe May 27, 1931. The 1931 Statute of Westminster absolved citizens of Commonwealth countries, the Dominion of Canada, the Commonwealth of Australia, the Dominion of New Zealand, the Union of South Africa, the Irish Free State and the Dominion of Newfoundland, of compulsory Morris dancing. There was a move to make Failure to Morris a crime in the name of the Governor-General but this was narrowly defeated.
So you mean it's true what the guy says in the video? I actually thought he was just joking!!!!!!! (don't know much about the Morris history, even if I adore the music)
Susi!! the video is pure Satire as is the note i copied from his site,,,,and i am evil for spreading it!
Gorgeous, that's what I thought.. I could see it in the lad's eyes. I love satire Keep being evil!!
I was laughing so hard i was crying! he also has a few other satire clips but the Morris Dance theme was too much fun to pass up!! michael

Michael, I don't know anyone in England that takes Morris Dancers seriously except those that participate! However there are a couple of good festivals around, Rochester Sweeps Festival and the Padstow Obby Orse. A good book to read about these events is 'In Search Of Albion' by Colin Irwin. By the way, if anyone doesn't understand abc and wants the tab, pm me for them....
