I found this waltz in the Southern Maryland Open Band tunebook, where it is credited to Anne Pape -- I know nothing else about it, but liked how nicely it sits in the range of the mandocello: https://static1.squarespace.com/stat...ookJan2021.pdf Suzuki MC-815 mandocello Vintage Viaten tenor guitar https://youtu.be/k9snmSECqqw Martin
Very pretty tune Martin. The Mandocello does fit perfectly!
This waltz creates his own atmosphere, well, could be your mandocello playing that sets it apart, Martin.
Many thanks, Frank and Christian. I also thought the low register was appropriate in evoking the bear that the tune is named after! Martin
Interesting tune, Martin, and your arrangement with the melody being generally in a lower register than the backing works well for this waltz. Nicely played.
I liked this tune the first time I heard it, now I tried to play it:
Lovely arrangement and playing, Christian. I loved that last bear in your video - the epitome of total contentment.
Beautifully serene. I want to be that bear...
Nice listen to calm down!
Nicely played, Christian -- very relaxing sound. The slower tempo, the higher mandolin pitch and the use of tremolo all add up to a quite different reading of the same dots than my recording. My bear is on the prowl, not lounging in the sun! Martin
It's true, the two recordings sound very different. That's the beauty of this group: Everyone's different musical approaches bring out different stories in the same melody. Nice tune and nice playing!
