About mandolinfox
- Biography:
- I started playing guitar in the summer of '69. I was into the blues and singer-songwriters - the Kings - B.B, Albert, and Carole! I started mandolin about 10 years later and played a lot of bluegrass in the 80's. Around 1995 I heard Jethro Burns's Acoustic Disc recordings (with Don Stiernberg playing rhythm guitar) and I knew that I had found my Holy Grail. In 2006 I joined a friend's classical mandolin ensemble, and I found a niche in the mandola section. It has broadened my horizons to include European classical music - and has made me a decent sight-reader. So now I play mostly jazz and classical - but I will play anything, any time, with anyone. For example, in the last year or two I've studied Yank Rachel, Johnny Young, and the jug band mandolinists. I just love to play.
