Per the track listing, I don’t see a cheap mandolin on Tone Poems. Except maybe in comparison to the 2 Loars and a ‘25 Fern.

Fret precisely, short fingernails. Practice slowly, it is harder to get a cleaner tone with the small frets. No magic there, for me anyway.

You can build a 7 chord by either dropping the root or raising the 5. So 243x is pretty simple, so is 545x. You need the 3 and the b7, the 1 and 5...
